A scientific sniglet is an existing or made-up word with a unique and humorous definition. Here are a few examples from our IDT colleagues and customers.
Centrifitrauma The destruction that occurs inside a centrifuge when things go wrong.
Phenolphasia The inability to speak about anything but the overwhelming smell that comes with opening a bottle of phenol.
Master-nix PCR mastermix lacking one or more essential components, e.g., nucleotides.
Squirtiful An undefined amount of liquid, when an exact measurement is not necessary; e.g., Q: “How much ammonium hydroxide should I add to make the bluing solution?” A: “Just a squirtiful should be fine.”
