IDT Continues Support of iGEM to Promote Next Generation of Synthetic Biology Researchers and Leaders

Nov 13, 2020
IDT is iGEM Platinum Sponsor for 7th year, providing products, educational content, and mentoring to international participants

CORALVILLE, Iowa (November 13, 2020) – Integrated DNA Technologies (IDT), a leading comprehensive genomics solutions provider, is continuing its long-time support of the International Genetically Engineered Machine (iGEM) Foundation as a platinum sponsor for the upcoming iGEM 2020 competition. The event empowers students from around the world to use synthetic biology to design safe and responsible solutions for problems in medicine, manufacturing, and agriculture.

2020 is the seventh consecutive year that IDT is supporting iGEM with a platinum sponsorship. The annual iGEM Giant Jamboree, on November 14-22, is a virtual event this year, during which thousands of students will work in teams to address unique challenges in their local communities.

IDT is offering a number of resources to enrich iGEM participants’ experience. Each of the iGEM teams, made up of young researchers throughout the world, is being provided up to 20kb of IDT’s market-leading gBlocks™ Gene Fragments at no cost, while also having access to IDT’s complete product portfolio, including Alt-R™ CRISPR Genome Editing products.

IDT representatives from locations around the world will assist the iGEM teams with guidance and technical support. IDT is also providing educational content, including a CRISPR-focused workshop. As part of the opening ceremony, IDT President Trey Martin will give a keynote presentation to this year’s participants.

“In a year full of unprecedented challenges, IDT is proud to continue our involvement with iGEM and to help ensure this event is valuable for the thousands of participants,” said IDT President Trey Martin. “We are proud to provide access to free products and technical support to help these young people to advance science and bring their ideas to life.”

The iGEM Foundation is an independent, non-profit organization dedicated to the advancement of synthetic biology, education and competition, and the development of an open community of collaboration. From beginnings as an intersession course at MIT in 2003, the competition has grown to attract more than 6,000 participants from 45 countries. For more about iGEM, visit
